This summer has been running the members of Disorganization XIII ragged. Between my trip to E3, our recent showing at Otakon, and our crazy rush to get Spoiler 4 done by NYAF/CC in October, this summer has been nothing but work, traveling, and assorted dick jokes. However, after our recent interview with Out of Time Productions, I did take some time to look back on where we have been and where we have going. So I thought, why not share these sappy sentiments with you guys.
It’s been a long time since Disorganization XIII started. Not as long as we tell other people, but pretty damn long nonetheless. Each individual member of Disorganization XIII has been presenting at conventions for years now. Some of us have been in the convention scene for well over 10, or 15 years, but Disorganization XIII as it exists now has only been around for five. In five years we have accomplished a lot and learned even more but there is still so much more to do.
It all started with a big scam to get one of my friends to come to an anime convention by promising him he could be on a panel. We chose Kingdom Hearts as the subject because it was something he knew a lot about. The surprisingly large audience for our Kingdom Hearts panel launched us into a cascade of other panels including Fanfiction panels, videogame panels, and much more.
Now, we are most well known for Spoiler: The Panel, but we are much more than that. We are committed to bringing you a multi-media convention experience, even if it means lot’s more work for us. We have this little rinky dink website that we post our rants on but even that is something we are still learning about. We are struggling to get our videos on Youtube and to make podcasts and all this junk, all while juggling our own busy drama filled lives.
Honestly, when I look back on it, the fact that we have come this far is nothing short of a miracle. Here is a secret oh loyal fans: we don’t know what we are doing. All of our performances have somehow recklessly stumbled together from chaos and drunkenness. We barely get our shit done in time, we are ALWAYS dealing with some major breakdown, and half the time we flip off or draw penises on the people like us. We are just like you, normal kids … well normal jersey kids in our circumstance. The fact that this managed to snowball into something that almost looks and feels professional is astounding to me.
That, by the way, is why we keep doing what we do. Even though there are cascades of people who disapprove of our performances and of what we do in general, standing up on stage and seeing all of the fans eager to see us make asses out of ourselves is a reward unlike anything you can possibly imagine. Truth be told you guys are the only thing that keeps us moving forward. Never forget how important you are because without you, we and every other convention celebrity would simply cease to exist.
Where are we going in the future? We don’t know. We want to get some sort of geek cooking panel together. We hope to have some serious intellectual debates about geek issues like piracy or homophobia in the future. Heck, we might even try our hand at a sketch comedy show at some point. Whatever you guys want, we will do. All we know is that as long as you, the fans, want to see more crazyness, want to see more rule breaking, want to see more people doing things that everyone else says isn’t OK, then Disorganization XIII will never, ever, die.

I remember back when you guys introduced yourself as some guys who fell into doing a panel Otakon and now do panels. I don’t remember which panel at NYAF it was but i remember thinking hey it’s those guys who were keeping Anime Parliament interesting.

Ah the good old day before we cloaked or selves in hyperbole and exaggeration. That was a tricky bit of needle work but the result looked great. This whole thing started with annoyance at a friend not believing he would enjoy anime conventions, and just exploded form there.
